I instructed the computer to create a new partition of 60 GiB, formatted as MS-DOS (FAT). I then followed step 3 - shrink the HFS+ partition. This overwrote the previously installed Linux OS. So far, I have been able to restore OSX up to MacOS v.10.11.6. follow these instructions to fix boot with efibootmanager: install mint (non lvm!) with the 'something else' option to the new Ext4 partition create a 'swap' partition, format 'swap' open gparted and create a new partition from the 'unallocated space', format Ext4, mount point '/', leaving a little space for a 'swap' partition boot up, hold 'option' key and pick 'efi' to boot the new UsbLive system use 'USB Image Writer' to create bootable Usb drive boot your Mint LiveDVD (non-efi in legacy compatibility mode, it's ok, we're not installing from it, we're using it only to write our Usb boot drive: boot OSX and shrink the hfs+ partition to get 'unallocated space'
